The Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) is searching for a new Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of its main peer-reviewed journal, WETLANDS.
The EiC provides primary editorial oversight and is responsible for recruiting and overseeing an editorial board of Associate Editors, managing the manuscript review process, and making or approving final decisions regarding manuscripts for publication. The person chosen will likely need to spend at least one day a week working exclusively on WETLANDS matters, depending on prior experience. Specifically, the EiC is responsible for the following:
Overseeing the review process of manuscripts submitted to WETLANDS.
– Developing editorial policies and strategies in conjunction with the editorial board.
– Maintaining integrity and reputation of the journal while ensuring strategic direction in light of the current and future publication landscape.
– Communicating with the publisher’s managing editor and journal editorial office (JEO) assistant.
– Recruiting/retiring Associate Editors (AEs).Soliciting research and reviewing articles.
– Attending the SWS annual meetings.
– Chairing an editorial meeting at each SWS annual meeting.
– Maintaining open lines of communication with the SWS Executive Board and Publications Committee on issues related to the journal and its content.
– Annually nominating a candidate for Outstanding Associate Editor (Doug Wilcox Award).
– Promoting the journal at professional meetings.

The EiC position is a five-year contract and is a remote position. Compensation is dependent upon experience and is negotiated as part of the five-year contract.
