Join the Society of Wetland Scientists as Executive Director
The Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) is a global organization dedicated to fostering sound wetland science, education, and management. With members spanning academia, government, non-profit, and private sectors, SWS promotes understanding, conservation, protection, restoration, science-based management and policy, and sustainability of wetlands worldwide. As we continue to grow and evolve, we are seeking a visionary and dynamic Executive Director (ED) to lead our organization globally into its next chapter.
Position: Executive Director (full position description)
SWS is seeking a highly organized, capable, and dedicated ED to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors (BOD), the ED will be responsible for advancing SWS’ mission and financial objectives, providing leadership in program planning, operations, fundraising, and external relations. This position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, a comprehensive benefits package, and the advantage of a fully remote position, with travel required to conferences and other meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation of the SWS Strategic Plan and ensure organizational sustainability.
- Oversee operations in collaboration with SWS Staff and the BOD Leadership (Executive Board).
- Develop and execute fundraising strategies to secure diversified revenue.
- Represent SWS at global wetland events and conferences.
- Foster and develop relationships with global partners and stakeholders.
- Support membership growth and engagement.
- Oversee financial operations, including budgeting, audits, and investments.
- Assist in planning and executing the SWS Annual Meeting and other key events.
Qualifications:
- A degree in wetland science, policy, law, or a related environmental field is preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in nonprofit or comparable management, including strategic planning and fundraising.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to travel and to work full-time from a professional remote environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to wetland science and management.
