The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of SWS was offering one $1000 Student Research Grant to graduate or undergraduate students conducting research in wetland science and who was enrolled in an accredited college or university in the Mid-Atlantic Chapter region (Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia). At this time, grant applications are no longer being accepted.
Mid-Atlantic Student Association/Website
One of the main agenda items for the MAC Officers for the past couple years has been the development of a student-based component for our Chapter. This goal was recently accomplished with a new student group formed for the Mid-Atlantic Region, based out of the University of Maryland.
During 2014, Liza McFarland and Bianca Pier became our first student representatives to the Executive Committee and successfully created an active student group spanning across the Chapter range, as well as between several colleges and universities. A special meeting to engage additional students from Penn State and other schools was held at the 2014 MAC annual conference, with excellent turn-out and involvement of new student leadership for the group. Shauna-kay Rainford of Penn State has replaced Bianca Pier as a student representative to MAC, following Bianca’s graduation and advancement as a professor at Siena College in Loudonville, NY, teaching Ecology and Biology.
The student group created their own website to highlight their ongoing activities. Please visit the website at http://sws-mac-students.weebly.com/.
