Good design saves time, money and effort in long-term management (and removes the personal angst that can come from a failing system). Drawing on over 20 years designing and maintaining wetlands this talk brings you the ‘must haves’ when it comes to design. This presentation provides: Top 5 design features you must have in a wetland and other Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) features. Outcomes from this presentation include having an understanding of the following: • key principles of wetland design in relation to effective maintenance • water level control devices and their management • plant selection and timing • wetland / WSUD stages – design, construct, bring on-line, maintain and key considerations with each point • getting the community on-board early • minimising impacts from sediment and pest species (including Carp, algae, excessive bird life, lack of water). Geraldene’s passion for brining nature back into urban areas is driving by the knowledge of the importance of connection of people with place and nature.
