For the first time, Oklahoma hosted the SWS South Central
Chapter Annual Meeting. In addition to workshops, invited
speakers, field trips and the student presentation competition,
the unique and beautiful lakeshore location provided an excellent
environment for technical information sharing, networking
and social activities.
The meeting was held on the campus of the University of Oklahoma
Biological Station (UOBS), located on the shores of Lake
Texoma, an impoundment of the Red and Washita Rivers along
the Oklahoma-Texas border. UOBS facilities include apartments,
dorms, kitchen/dining area, classrooms, library, computer
labs, maintenance shop, boat houses, lab and office space,
a research park and recreational facilities (including pavilion,
basketball court, horseshoe pit and volleyball nets) all situated
on 30 acres of shoreline. An adjoining 282 acres of lowlands
are leased from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. To find out
more about UOBS facilities, please visit http://www.ou.edu/uobs/.
