Will Conner is a professor at Clemson University's Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science located in Georgetown, South Carolina. He received his B.S. in biology from Virginia Tech and his Ph.D. in forestry from the Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
Will's main interests include recovery mechanisms of forested wetlands following disturbance, regeneration problems in forested wetlands, response of woody species to flooding and salinity, impact of water management on wetland productivity, use of native plants to control erosion, and regional studies of wetland processes. His current research projects include:
- Floodplain forests and water quality: influence of ecosystem type and biogeochemistry;
- Restoration of forested wetland sites in coastal Georgia: a demonstration of planting techniques;
- Hog management plan development, impact monitoring, and initial management implementation for Congaree Swamp National Monument in South Carolina;
- Study of the long-term ecology of a drainage system in a coastal pine/cypress forest;
- Factors affecting regeneration of tree species in forested wetland sites of the southern United States; and
- Influence of hydrology on forested wetland productivity.
Will has served as the South Atlantic Chapter's Treasurer and Secretary since 1992. In fact, he has been the only treasurer/secretary the South Atlantic Chapter has had and he has done and continues to do a fantastic job. He most recently served as conference chair for the 26th Annual Wetlands Meeting in Charleston, South Carolina. He resides in Georgetown, South Carlolina, with his wife Angela and has two grown children.
