Ms. Uranowski is a Senior Environmental Scientist with the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD), in Brooksville, Florida. She received her B.S. in Biology in 1993 and M.S. in Botany in 1996 from the University of South Florida. Her work is focused on the development of Minimum Flows and Levels for wetlands and lakes. She is responsible for the examination of multiple biotic and abiotic factors that may be utilized as reliable indicators of wetland condition. To do this, Ms. Uranowski coordinates staff scientist efforts as well as the efforts of outside ecological and hydrological consultants and university experts. Prior to joining the SWFWMD, Ms. Uranowski worked for county and state governments in Florida and in the private sector, as an ecological consultant and instructor.
Christina is a published researcher in several peer reviewed journals and documents concentrated in the areas of coastal and freshwater wetlands of Florida. Her field expertise includes wetland work in Florida and Puerto Rico. Christina has been a member of the SWS since 1994 and has attended several SWS International conferences and participated in Chapter events. She is interested in expanding student and new SWS membership and educational opportunities by continuing to support interactive interdisciplinary participation and forums with universities, community colleges and public and non-profit agencies and organizations throughout the Chapter region. Christina believes in bringing wetland professionals and organizations together to advance the knowledge of wetlands science and increase public awareness about the important functions provided by wetlands that are valued by everyone. She is interested in promoting research that adds to our understanding of climate change and the resulting impacts to coastal and inland wetlands.
