SWS Mid Atlantic Chapter News
November 2000

The Mid-Atlantic Chapter held a fall gathering in conjunction with the Wetlands Regulatory Workshop in Atlantic City, New Jersey on November 2. Approximately 110 members attended the social event held to kick-off the revival of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter. Chapter members were informed of recent events, including the development of a member survey, the updating of the Chapter's web page, and upcoming Chapter events. Thanks to Ralph Spagnolo and Frank Reilly for all their help in setting this successful meeting up. For those of you who missed the meeting, you missed a great time and a chance to get to know some fellow wetland scientists and talk shop.

The Chapter member survey was developed the help us gain a better understanding of our members and to better serve your interests. The member survey has been distributed via e-mail to all Chapter members for whom we have current e-mail addresses. We will be mailing the surveys out to all members in the month of November. Please fill them out and let us know what is on your mind. Get them back to us before the end of the year. For more information, contact Brett Berkley at bberkley@langan.com or (201) 794-6900, x502.

We were able to collect some current e-mail addresses in Atlantic City. If you have not been receiving recent e-mails from us, then we do not have your e-mail address. Please send your current e-mail address to tdoss@louisberger.com. If you so not have an e-mail address, please let me know [(973) 678-1960, x470] and give me your current postal address so we can keep you informed of news and upcoming events.

Our web page has been updated with help from web-master Kirk Barrett, with assistance from Jim Lynch. Please visit the web page to stay on top of breaking news and information. And we will try to keep it filled with breaking news and information - but you can help. If you send me information relevant to the Chapter, I will make sure it is posted.

Upcoming Chapter events include a dinner lecture in the DC area to be announced shortly and a one-day workshop on Phragmites in the Baltimore/Delaware area, to be co-sponsored with the USEPA and Maryland Department of Natural Resources. We will let you know the details as soon as they are worked out. We will also be developing an annual two-day Chapter spring meeting and annual one-day fall meeting. Lastly, we want to hold an event in your area. If you know of a great wetland site to visit and would like to host a tour, or hold a workshop or lecture, the Chapter will help you to sponsor such an event. Let us know. And those of you have sent me ideas already, I will be contacting you this month to try to set something up. We look forward to all of our members growing involvement in Chapter activities!
