SWS Mid-Atlantic Chapter Members!
This fall, the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of SWS will meet jointly with the Wetlands
and Watersheds Workshop. This
is the 8th Workshop, and will mark the second time we have met together with
them as a Chapter. The meeting
is scheduled for October 24-28, 2005, at the Holiday Inn on the Boardwalk,
Atlantic City, NJ. At our
Chapter Meeting held at the SWS meeting in June, we decided it would be a
good idea to meet in conjunction
with The Wetlands & Watersheds Work Group to cut down on the number of
different activities already scheduled
for this fall. As a special incentive for us to attend the Atlantic City meeting,
the abstract deadline has
been extended one week for our membership to submit presentations. I know
this is short notice,
but please consider attending the Atlantic City meeting and submitting your
abstract by the end of this
week in order to beconsidered for a platform presentation. Abstracts should
have the following format:
TITLE OF THE ARTICLE (ALLCAPS CENTERED)
-Blank line-
Author(s), affiliation(s)and address(es)
-Blank line-
Body of abstract – not to exceed 200 words in 12 point
Times New Roman font.
Send the abstract as anattachment to an email to:
Spagnolo.ralph@epa.gov
You can find outmore about the meeting at the www.wetlandsworkgroup.org
website. The proceedings and
agendas of some ofthepast meetings are also posted at that site if you would
like to see more about this
meeting. The cost for this meeting is not yet set, but will be in the neighborhood
of $200.00 for the meeting
registration.
Whenin Atlantic City, we will hold a SWS Mid-Atlantic Chapter Meeting to discuss
Chapter business.
Please plan on attending with your thinkingcaps on!!
PAST MEETINGS
SOCIETY OF WETLAND SCIENTISTS
Mid-Atlantic Chapter 1st Annual Chapter Meeting
At the 25th annual meeting of the Society of Wetland Scientists, members of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter met and unanimously endorsed the notion of holding annual chapter meetings to promote wetland science in general, while also promoting interaction between wetland scientists, engineers, regulators, consultants, and students within the Mid-Atlantic region. As such, we are pleased to announce our 1st Annual Chapter Meeting!
Restoring our Urban Wetlands: Contamination and Stormwater Issues
WHEN: Thursday, October 28 and Friday, October 29
WHERE: The beautiful Villanova University Conference Center (www.villanovaconfctr.com)
We hope to gain a better understanding of how various state and federal representatives within the Mid-Atlantic region deal with contamination and stormwater issues when restoring wetlands. The feature presentations are intended to highlight similarities and differences among states within the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as provide wetland professionals with information on cutting-edge technology.
Poster Session: We also will host a poster session in which participants are welcome to present on any aspect of wetland science. Student participation in the poster session is especially encouraged, and will be judged. The Mid-Atlantic Chapter will pay the conference fees for the recipient of the best student poster presentation for the 26th annual meeting of the Society of Wetland Scientists, to be held in June 2005, in Charleston, South Carolina.
Field Trip: A field trip to Villanova University's campus will feature a stormwater wetland, the construction of which was supported by a Pennsylvania 309 grant to Dr. Robert Traver, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Villanova University. In addition, participants will be able to see the porous pavement demonstration project and parking lot traffic infiltration islands, also on the University's campus.
