Society of Wetland Scientists, 21st Annual Conference

The 21st Annual Conference of the Society of Wetland Scientists will be held in Québec City, Canada on August 6-12, 2000. We are inviting your expression of interest in presenting papers, posters, exhibits and special symposia or workshops during this conference as part of a Millennium Wetland Event. Themes include sustainability of wetland and biological resources, wetland restoration technology, advances in regulatory programs, informatics, fisheries and wetland habitat conservation, networks and education. These themes and your ideas are actively sought to develop this program. What would you like to see?
Québec City, the capital city of the Province of Québec has a regional population of over 465,000 and is located on the shores and Estuary of one of the largest rivers in North America, la fleuve Saint-Laurent. The City is at the heart of French culture in Canada and is recognized as a World Heritage Site. First settled in 1608, this walled city is one of the oldest and most scenic places in North America. Québec's historic buildings, churches, restaurants and museums are complemented by a vibrant World port and sophisticated modern hotels and business facilities including the site of the SWS 2000 meeting: the Québec Congress Centre.
The following initial list of Canadian and international organizations have offered to support implementation of portions of the SWS 2000 program.
The 21st Annual Conference of the SWS will be held in conjunction with Sixth International Wetland Symposium (INTECOL VI) organized by the International Association of Ecology, the 11th International Congress of the International Peat Society (IPS), a Symposium of the International Mire Conservation Group (IMCG) and special meetings and workshops of organizations such as Wetlands International. Registration for any of these conferences will give you access to all the meetings at no extra charge!
Specialized wetland science, management and policy symposia and public cultural events will highlight these meetings. Information on the program of the 21st Annual Conference of SWS and concurrent INTECOL, IMCG, Wetlands International and IPS meetings, registration procedures, exhibition space, Québec tourism, field trips, limited financial support for travel, and how to get involved are available from our Secretariat:
