Wetland slide solicitation and contest

Bulletin of the North American Benthological Society, Summer 1998 issue

The North American Benthological Society (NABS) is seeking quality slides for a new Wetland Slide Library. Like other slide collections developed by NABS members, this slide set will be available to any individual or organization for use as an educational tool. Net proceeds from the sale of these slides will support NABS projects.

To help generate interest in donating slides, a US$50 award will be given to the best slide in each of the following categories:

  1. Wetland type - We need slides of both common and rate types of wetlands (i.e., cattail marsh, cypress swamp), both natural and man-made.
  2. Typical wetland plants - Plants which dominate and define a certain wetland (i.e., sedges, Sphagnum moss, saw grass). We are not looking for pictures of rare species.
  3. Wetland functions - Slides that demonstrate some of the functions that wetlands perform (i.e., peat formation, cranberry production, fish production). Be creative.

All slide donations become the property of NABS which then has the right to sell copies. Unless otherwise requested, all slides used will credit the photographer. No slides will be returned. Winners of the slide contests will be announced at the 1999 NABS meeting in Duluth, Minnesota. Contributors need not be present to win. Please send your slide donations and a brief description to:
