Dianna Hogan, PhD

Dianna Hogan is a Research Physical Scientist with the Eastern Geographic Science Center at the U.S. Geological Survey in Reston, VA. She received her B.S. in Biochemistry in 1992 from Wichita State University and was then employed as a biotechnology research associate at Genetics Institute in Andover, Massachusetts. She received her M.S. in Biology in 2000, and her Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Public Policy in 2005 from George Mason University.

Dianna’s research focuses on the environmental consequences of land use and land use change on natural systems. Her research examines wetland nutrient chemistry, the efficacy of stormwater best management practices, and the development of decision support systems in south Florida and in the Chesapeake Bay watershed to help land use decision makers understand and balance environmental goals with socioeconomic benefits and consequences. Dianna’s interests also include promoting interdisciplinary research and communication, and increasing research opportunities and experience for students.
