2007 Sacramento Conference Children’s Program.
All days start and end at the Sacramento Convention Center

Cost for Children's Program: (5-12 years old)

$120 per week OR $35 daily

For each additional child $80 per week OR $25 daily

Monday, June11 (8:30 am to 5pm): We will spend the day getting to know each other and the place we are visiting. The children will spend the morning meeting new friends and catching up with old ones through games and crafts. After lunch, the group will depart to the Effie Yaw Nature Center where they will be led on a tour of the center, participate in a program that features live animals, and learn about the Maidu Indian Culture. After returning to the Convention Center, the group will be introduced to the art of scrapbooking and will start their mementos.

Tuesday, June 12 (8:30 am to 5 pm): Our focus will be on Sacramento’s past. The group will get a chance to investigate the history of Sacramento at the Sacramento Museum of Science. The younger group will go on a self guided tour and meet up with the older group at lunch to do some panning for gold. The older group will spend the morning on a guided tour. The afternoon will be spent with both groups adding to their scrapbooks and learning some cowboy songs around the campfire.

Thursday, June 14 (8:30 am to 5 pm): This day will be a trip to the Yolo River Basin for some fun in the sun. Hikes, dip-netting and wetland exploration will start our day. When we return to the Convention Center we will have time to add to our scrapbooks before a visit from the Sacramento Bat Conservancy. They will present a program about the bats of California and provide the children with an up-close look at these tiny mammals.

Friday, June 15 (8:30 am to noon): On our last day, we will head outside again to visit Capitol Park and see where Governor Schwarzenegger makes his decisions. A scavenger hunt will add a level of competition to our walk through the lush gardens. As we head back to the Convention Center we will be getting ready for a visit from a native fish species- the Chinook Salmon. Participants will learn about the plight of the salmon and the hope for its future.

Volunteers are needed for field trips and are welcome for any and all activities on-site as well as chaperones for field trips during the conference. Contact Jennifer Henke ( jennifer.henke@email.ucr.edu).
