Thematic Symposium

S1. Important Wetland Ecosystems of the Southeastern USA

Following the plenary talk there was a special thematic symposium focusing on three of the most important wetland ecosystems of the Southeast: bottomland hardwood forests and temperate and subtropical intertidal swamps. Overviews of these wetland ecosystems were presented as an introduction to the region and a welcome to the conference. The speakers and presentations were:

  • Sammy King (US Geological Survey): Bottomland Hardwood Forests of the Southeastern United States
  • Courtney Hackney (University of North Carolina-Wilmington): Tidal Swamps (Non-Mangrove) in the Southeastern United States
  • Robert Twilley (Louisiana State University*): The ‘Ecology of Mangroves’ Revisited: Models of Ecosystem Science
