2020 Virtual Meeting
December 1-3, 2020
Call for Lightning Talk Proposals
The Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) is excited to announce our inaugural virtual meeting on December 1-3, 2020, themed “Wetland Connections Over 40 Years”. We listened to your feedback and decided that a smaller, virtual meeting is in order to celebrate the SWS 40th anniversary and to showcase our members’ outstanding work in wetlands. Our goal is to offer an abbreviated format for the SWS community to connect, to share research, and to continue expanding our Society’s global network.
We are now accepting short abstracts through our Call for Lightning Talks for the 2020 Virtual Meeting. The deadline to submit a lightning talk abstract is Monday, October 5, 2020. Abstracts relevant to the meeting’s theme are particularly encouraged. Due to a short turnaround time, we are not able to offer extensions beyond this date. Submit your proposal here.
Lightning talks are 5-minute pre-recorded presentations covering a bite-sized bit of research. The goal is to present your work in a quick, insightful and clear manner. These concise talks are intended to grab the attention of the audience, convey key information, and allow for several presenters to share their ideas over a short time period with an opportunity for presenter-audience exchange following all pre-recorded presentations. Lightning talk organizers are required to explain their research findings in just 5-minutes using five slides. Suggested breakdown of slides is as follows:
• Slide 1: Introduction
• Slide 2: Methods
• Slides 3-5: Results & Discussion
Abstracts will be evaluated by the Virtual Program Committee, and final decisions will be announced in mid-October 2020. Lightning talk sessions will encompass a series of 5 short talks with 5 minutes of Q&A for all presenters at the end of the session. All pre-recordings must be finalized and submitted to SWS by Monday, November 16.
LIGHTNING TALK SCHEDULING
Please complete the below form by Monday, October 5, 2020. A submission confirmation will be sent for the applicant’s records upon receipt of the abstract. All proposed lightning talks will be evaluated by the 2020 Virtual Program Committee and final decisions will be announced in mid-October 2020.
