McMillan Student Scholarship Awards

The McMillan Student Scholarship Awards are to encourage student participation at our regional and national meetings. The Awards are named in honor of Andy McMillan in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication in leading and promoting the functions and activities of SWS-PNW. Awards can be used for travel, hotel and conference registration costs.

Eligibility: Awards are open to currently registered graduate and undergraduate students, regardless of location. Preference is given to students living, performing research or attending a university within the SWS-PNW region (WA, OR and ID).

SWS-PNW Mini-Meeting - Kelso, WA 
Awards: SWS-PNW will offer three, $200 awards for the upcoming SWS-PNW Mini-Meeting in Kelso, WA, September 26 and 27, 2017.

To apply:

Please submit the following:

  • A one-page cover letter describing your background, research and/or education, career goals, and how an award from SWS-PNW would assist in meeting these goals.
  • A one-page resume.

Please merge the letter and resume into a single Word or Pdf document. Attach said document to an email addressed: KarlaG@AquaTerrSystemsInc.com with “SWS-PNW 2017 Scholarship” as the subject line. All applications must be received by 5:00pm (PST) on Friday, September 15, 2017.

Students that receive awards are expected to provide a brief biosketch for the SWS-PNW newsletter and website.

2018 SWS Annual Meeting - Denver, CO 
Awards will be offered for the 2018 SWS Annual Meeting, Wetland Science: Integrating Research, Practice, and Policy-An Exchange of Expertise, in Denver, CO, May 29 - June 1, 2018. Students must submit an abstract online and present their work as a poster or presentation at the meeting. The call for abstracts will be issued in late 2017. More information about the meeting is available at: www.swsannualmeeting.org.

SWS-PNW Joint Conference with SER - Spokane, WA
Awards will be offered for the 2018 SWS-PNW joint conference with SER, Restoring Resilient Communities in Changing Landscapes, in Spokane, WA, October 15 - 19, 2018. Students must submit an abstract online and present their work as a poster or presentation at the meeting. More information on the meeting will be available soon at: www.restoration2018.org.
