Hydric Soils - $55
(includes lunch, materials, and transportation)
This is a field-based workshop looking at hydric soil indicators as described in the "Arid West & Western Mountains" and "Valleys & Coast" regional supplements. Four field sites will provide a laboratory for a general overview of redoxomorphic features and depleted matrices as well as a more in depth look at hydric indicators for Salt Flat, Alluvial, Alpine, and Problematic Riverine soils. Presented by Terra Science, Inc. (Phil Scoles, PWS, RPSS).
This workshop is scheduled from 8-4 and is limited to 25 participants.

Community Connections - $80

Community Connections Workshop: Learn the tools that will achieve collaborative planning and adaptive management of wetlands in a complex regulatory environment. Is public outreach part of your work? Have you led a public meeting? Has contention among stakeholders given you acid reflux? This is the workshop for you! During the workshop you will be shown collaborative planning tools that will make your next stakeholder interaction a successful one. Learn to identify and successfully invite stakeholders to work with you in collaboration, rather than conflict. Learn the optimal ways of communication with regulators and the public, based on your goals for each project. This 4-hour interactive workshop will leave you confident that you will be able to effectively manage your next project involving stakeholders. ECO Resource Group training staff will show you how to bridge the gap between science and communication to reach your project goals. No antacids required.
Workshop is scheduled from 8-12 and can accommodate 60.

Overview of NEPA for Resource Managers and Professionals (SWCA) - $80
CANCELED
(includes breaks, lunch and materials)
This workshop is a shortened version of our "boot camp" style National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) course, which uses an interactive approach. The course focuses on exploring each phase of the NEPA process, including formulation of alternatives to meet project needs, appropriate public involvement, impact analysis, publication of a decision, and maintenance of an administrative record. We take the complexity of regulatory management and synthesize it into a presentation that is understandable and usable to you. Participants will choose from a variety of NEPA case studies and manage a project from kick-off through publication of the Record of Decision. This course is designed for both NEPA novices and experts. When you finish this course, you'll understand how to better work with NEPA.
Workshop is scheduled from 8-4 and can accommodate 60.

Restoration/Rehabilitation and Conservation Easements - $35
(includes break and materials)
Conservation easements are becoming more important in the realm of wetland protection, and in many cases have become a legal permit requirement. This workshop will provide an overview of conservation easements from the perspective of permanent protection, while providing for restoration and rehabilitation. Presented by Wendy Fisher, the president of Utah Open Lands, in conjunction with her symposium; the workshop will cover some of the ins and outs of developing a strong and legally protective, yet workable, conservation easement. She will cover past successes and mistakes and discuss the importance of wording that works both legally and practically. Ben Bloodworth of the Utah Department of Natural Resources will assist, providing a perspective from the Public Lands side, stressing the importance of getting conservation easements in place as quickly as possible in order to circumvent some of the politics involved in public lands management.
This workshop is scheduled from 8-12 and can accommodate 60.

Wetland/Weed Mapping - $80
CANCELED
(includes materials, lunch, and transportation)
This workshop is presented by the Utah State University Extension office and is specifically designed for mapping weeds to aide in the development of a spatial database. A strong background in the use of GPS hardware is required, as the workshop is designed for those with GPS experience and will not focus on training new GPS users. Training will be conducted inside, with an afternoon spent in the field actually mapping weeds on the ground. This workshop is designed to familiarize participants with mapping techniques and the field implementation of these.
This workshop is scheduled from 8-4 and is limited to 25 participants.
