INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL AWARDS
International Travel Awards are provided for financial assistance to wetland scientists who are disadvantaged through regional economic conditions, to enhance their participation in Society activities. The goal of this award is to foster participation of the international membership through a travel grant to the annual meeting and free membership for three years in SWS. Application must be received by March 12, 2010.
Eligibility
- Awards will be given to scientists from economically disadvantaged countries who could not otherwise afford to attend the meeting in Salt Lake City, UT, and who conduct wetland research or are involved in applied wetland science.
- Graduate and undergraduate students are not eligible for an international travel award.
- Preference will be given to scientists seeking partial funding for travel and who demonstrate additional funding from other sources.
- Preference will be given to scientists whose work fits best with the overall conference theme.
- Preference will be given to SWS members.
- Applicants must present an oral paper or a poster to be considered.
Application Requirements
The following information is required for an application to be complete and eligible for consideration.
- Full curriculum vitae including: name, affiliation, mailing address, telephone, and email address; details of education and professional employment history; list of publications (indicating contribution to each); list of seminar and conference presentation; and any special achievements, awards, and prizes, if applicable.
- 250 words (maximum) abstract in the correct abstract format.
- Proposed travel itinerary and budget.
- List of additional, outside financial support sources (i.e., other than SWS support) and amounts from each source.
- Statement of how attending the SWS 31st Annual Conference in Salt Lake City, UT, in 2010 will promote the goals of SWS in your country of employment.
- Letter of support from a principal supervisor or colleague.
- Applicants are also expected to lead a "mini-plenary" session on their research of approximately one half hour.
Application Submission
Applications must be submitted online. The deadline has passed.
COMPLETE APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 12 MARCH 2010.
Awardees will be responsible for their own visa arrangements
Awards will include travel costs, with airfare, hotel, and registration covered directly by SWS; details will be provided upon notification of awards
