Once again SWS is teaming with Environmental Concern to
offer the Wetlander’s Program, a marvelous week of
exploration and discovery.. All children ages 5-12 years old
are invited to participate in this four day treasure seeking
adventure.
Starting on Tuesday May 27th everyone will come
together to greet old friends, make new ones, play games and
embark on a boat ride. The Potomac River
group will experience Washington DC on a famous Duck Tour
ending in a river ride on their name sake. The
Anacostia River group will enjoy an afternoon
pontoon journey on the Anacostia River. Throughout the
week, Wetlanders will use maps and compasses, travel the
subway and go on a scavenger hunt through the Natural
History Museum ending with an IMAX. Friday both groups will
spend the day in Rock Creek Park exploring the nature

Why does SWS offer the Wetlander Program?
-
Offers an educational opportunity for children:
Children will participate in hands-on activities and
field trips that emphasize conservation ecology.
Furthermore, the children have a chance to explore and
experience the natural history of a new area, since many
families travel to the conference from other regions.
-
Increases conference participation:
A Children’s Program enables families to attend the
conference with their children. The program follows the
schedule of the conference so adults are free to attend
day-time sessions feeling secure that their children are
protected, well supervised and having fun.
-
Expands the awareness of SWS in the community:
The Children’s Program is designed to take advantage of
local sites, events and places of interest. Through
networking and utilization of the host community,
knowledge and understanding of SWS is increased.
