INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL AWARDS


International Travel Awards are provided for financial assistance to wetland scientists who are disadvantaged through  regional economic conditions, to enhance their participation in Society activities.  The goal of this award is to foster participation of the international membership through a travel grant to the annual meeting and free membership for 3 years in SWS.

Applications must be received by 7 March 2008
 


ELIGIBILITY

  1. Awards will be given to scientists from economically disadvantaged countries who could not otherwise afford to attend the meeting in Washington D.C., and who conduct wetland research or are involved in applied wetland science.

  2. Graduate and undergraduate students are not eligible for an international travel award. 

  3. Preference will be given to scientists seeking partial funding for travel and who demonstrate additional funding from other sources.

  4. Preference will be given to scientists whose work fits best with the overall conference theme.

  5. Preference will be given to SWS members.

  6. Applicants must present an oral paper or a poster to be considered.

 

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

The following information is required for an application to be complete and eligible for consideration.

  1. Full curriculum vitae including: name, affiliation, mailing address, telephone, and email address; details of education and professional employment history; list of publications (indicating contribution to each); list of seminar and conference presentations; and any special achievements, awards and prizes, if applicable.

  2. 250 word (maximum) abstract in the correct abstract format. (see Abstract submission page)

  3. Proposed travel itinerary and budget.

  4. List of additional, outside financial support sources (i.e., other than SWS support) and amounts from each source.

  5. Statement of how attending the SWS 29th Annual Conference in Washington DC in 2008 will promote the goals of the SWS in your country of employment.

  6. Letter of support from a principal supervisor or colleague.

Complete applications must received by 7 March 2008

Decisions will be communicated by 14 March 2008

Awardees will be responsible for their own visa arrangements

Awards will include travel costs, with airfare, hotel, and registration covered directly by SWS;
details will be provided upon notification of awards
